The Pillar Necklace is made using a large dark stone.  The stone pictured here was collected at Ditch Plains in Montauk, NY.  The stones are set by hand in a solid brass bezel. The 3/16" wide leather cord is a long wrap around cord with African beads knotted at the ends.  A bold statement piece, the stones I choose for this necklace style are larger and evoke a sense of strength.  Their tactile quality is very soothing and provides a sense of groundedness.  

The solid brass Pillar Charm is a symbol I created after coming across the tiny backbone of a small animal on the beach one day.  I was struck by the quiet, underrated strength of our bones, of our backbones in particular.  How they hold us up day after day and how they endure after whatever has befallen us.  The charm symbolizes strength, tenacity, fortitude, and endurance.  The pairing of the Pillar with a beautiful old stone that has endured forever makes this a very powerful necklace.     

This necklace is very versatile and can be worn in many ways:  you can wear it long in the front and tie it in the back, or wrap it around and wear it tied close to your neck with the African beads in front, which is super pretty and flattering.  Or you can wear the stone up high in front and drape the beads down your back for a cool look.   You can also choose to have it on a brass collar rather than leather.
